Chief of state housing developer offers to resign SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Yonhap) — The chief of South Korea’s housing developer has offered to resign, becoming the first previous-government appointed head of a major state-run company who has expressed intent to step down since the Yoon Suk-yeol administration took office in May. Last week, Chief Executive Officer Kim Hyun-jun of Korea Land and Housing Corp. (LH) expressed his intention to step down to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, an official of the company said.

Siemens posts loss as energy spin-off struggles

German industrial conglomerate Siemens said on Thursday it had made a significant net loss as it counted the cost of struggles at its former energy unit.
Between April and June, Siemens recorded a net loss of €1.5 billion, after a mirror €1.5 billion profit in the same period last year.
The loss was due to a €2.7 billion devaluation of the group’s “stake in Siemens Energy and Russia-related impacts totalling €0.6 billion”, Siemens said in a statement.

By The Associated PressMADRID — A plane provided by the Spanish government has brought 294 Afghan refugees via Pakistan to Spain, authorities said Thursday, bringing to 3,900 the number of people evacuated by Madrid since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan last year.
A government statement said the latest group of Afghan workers and their families flew into an air base near Madrid late Wednesday and were met by government officials, including Spanish Foreign Affairs Minister José Albares.
‘This flight is further evidence that we are keeping our commitment to not leave anyone behind,’ Albares said in the statement.
